History
Due to the similarity in the size of the previous 1962 One Baht Coin with the 1972 5 baht coin lead to confusion between these coins. In 1974 the government initiated the Treasury Department to produce a new type of circulating coin. On the coin's obverse has king Bhumibol Adulyadej's portrait and the reverse has an image of a Garuda. This coin has been changed to be lighter and smaller than the original One Baht Coin. The government allowed these coins to be used with the older One Baht coins.
